DorOthy Brett Cabin
The Dorothy Brett cabin is one of four built at the beginning of last century, originally for sheep herders. Both Aldous Huxley and D.H. Lawrence lived and wrote in these cabins. Dorothy Brett was a frequent visitor, and later Elizabeth Kubler Ross and Ram Dass stayed here. Dorothy Brett painted in this valley and was ecstatic to have sold a painting for three hundred dollars to a Mrs. Millicent Rogers. She was one of three, together with Mabel Dodge Lujan and Frieda Lawrence, as they formed the iconic figures that one of the early photographs depict.
This small yet well equipped log cabin, designed for 1-2 people, has a cozy and quiet feel. The cabin is a one room efficiency/duplex with a full bathroom and kitchen. There is a wood burning stove and a heat pump for colder days.
Wake up to an early morning bird song and sit on the porch with a cup of coffee. For one or two, the quietude is all-embracing.
*Please note that this cabin is part of a duplex.
Nightly rates depend on the season. $10 extra pp.
This is a magical little farm in the mountains.. Lovely and clean cabins, fresh eggs from the hens in the back yard, sunshine and pleasant walking with Forest trails for hiking right across the road. I came for an extended stay, and just may have to extend it a bit longer - it will be hard to leave here!
